It’s Time for a Car Air Conditioning Check and Service

Summers in Orlando, Florida are hot, humid, and absolutely beautiful. You want to make sure, however, that your home and automobile have functioning air conditioners that are ready to cool you off all summer long. Fast Lane Automotive cannot help you with your home’s air conditioner, but we can inspect and service or repair your automobile’s A/C. Here are common problems we fix all the time.

Refrigerant Leaks

Your vehicle’s air conditioner has a series of hoses and connectors. It is common for refrigerant to leak out of the hose connections on older automobiles. Your refrigerant may also be low because you haven’t had the A/C serviced in a while and it has naturally dissipated over the years.

Blocked Condenser

Refrigerant gets hot, and it’s the condenser’s job to re-cool it after the compressor has compressed it. Part of what helps the condenser cool the hot refrigerant is air flowing through your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s grille. Unfortunately, dirt flows through the grille, as well, and this grime can clog the condenser because it is located directly behind the grille.

Damaged Condenser

Unfortunately, the road debris can also damage the condenser. Depending on the size of the rocks that make it through the grille, you may end up with dents or punctures in this important air conditioning part. This can cause the condenser to fail and leave you with hot air blowing through the vents.

Electrical Problems

When you turn on your car’s air conditioner, the electrical system is what powers it. If you have any problems at all in your electrical system, including with the battery or alternator, this can directly affect how well your A/C functions. Blown fuses can also prevent the A/C from turning on.

Fan Failure

If the fan motor is blown, you won’t feel any air coming through your vents. This isn’t the only fan in your air conditioning system, however. There are also fans that blow over the condenser to help it cool the refrigerant. If the fans are malfunctioning, you’ll end up with hot instead of cold air in your automobile.

Bad Compressor

Finally, the compressor is a part that needs to be run regularly in order for it to last longer. It’s a good idea to turn on your vehicle’s air conditioner once a month and allow it to run for 15 minutes. This keeps the compressor and operating order. Your A/C will not work without the compressor.
