AC Check and Charge
Can you live without your vehicle’s air-conditioner? We can’t either. Driving without an air conditioner in the middle of July makes for a very miserable commute. Your car, truck, or SUV’s AC works hard to keep the cabin cool as a cucumber, but it cannot do that if there is something wrong with the compressor, fan, or refrigerant. Now is a good time for an AC inspection and service.
Cooling System Check
Your vehicle’s air conditioner keeps you cool and your automobile’s cooling system keeps it cool. As the mercury rises, your vehicle’s engine works harder to stay cool. It’s wise to have the cooling system inspected now to make sure your coolant is clean and full and that you don’t have any leaks from the radiator or hoses. The fan and thermostat also need to be tested before it gets too hot.
Motor Oil Check
Another crucial fluid that keeps your engine cool during the hot summer months (and year-round) is the motor oil. Unless you use synthetic motor oil and your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends differently, it’s still important to have your motor oil and the oil filter changed every 3,000 miles. If it’s been 3,000 miles since your last change, do it now and every 3,000 miles afterward.
Tire Check
The hotter the roads get the harder they are on the tires. Have your tires inspected to make sure they aren’t bald or weakened. If there is a problem with a tire or your entire set, it’s a good idea to replace them before the roads get too hot. Bald tires and hot asphalt equal blowouts. The wheels will handle better if you have them balanced and aligned, too, this summer.
