Signs My Engine Is Dying for Good

We can help if your engine is dying for good. Every automobile’s engine will eventually run out of life. If you want to keep your vehicle because it has a special meaning to you, we can rebuild the engine or replace it depending on the extent of the damage. In some cases, we may need to replace systems within the engine to resolve the problem. Let’s talk more about this below.

Constant Overheating

For example, if your engine is overheating constantly, it may be time for a new cooling system. If the rest of the engine is in good shape, we can replace the cooling system to keep the engine’s temperature under 220 degrees Fahrenheit when you drive your automobile. If the overheating is being caused by a cracked engine block, however, we will have to replace the engine.

Excessive Exhaust

We may also have to replace the engine if your tailpipe is releasing a ton of exhaust. This is a sign that the engine is burning a ton of automotive fluid. Specifically, it is burning a ton of gasoline or diesel fuel if the exhaust color is black. The engine is burning a ton of oil if the exhaust color is blue. Finally, the engine is burning a ton of coolant if the exhaust color is white.

Knocking Noises

We may be able to partially rebuild the engine if it makes constant knocking sounds while you are driving. This is a sign that the rod bearings in the cylinder block need to be replaced. Unfortunately, this is an extensive repair because of where the cylinder block is located. As such, we will need to take your engine apart to replace the rod bearings in the cylinder block.

Metal in the Oil

We cannot get away with an engine rebuild if you have motor oil that is filled with metal shavings. This is definitely a sign that your engine is a goner. The metal shavings are the various parts in the engine disintegrating into the oil. There’s no way to repair this problem.

Significant Power Loss

Finally, there is also no way to repair an engine that isn’t producing power. Eventually, your engine simply won’t run no matter what we do. This is a sign you need a new engine.

Call us today to schedule a service appointment so we can inspect your engine completely to see what needs to be done to restore it.
